Hi Point JHP

All the Hi-Point haters out there will love this story.

I purchased the ultimate in inexpensive guns. A Hi-Point.
I took it to the range and loved it. No jams, and it was pretty accurate.

It is, however, very ugly and awkward. But nevertheless. The power of a .45 for very little money was the way to go for me.

Well, after field stripping it, I noticed marks inside the barrel that didn't look normal so I sent it in to be worked on. I requested the barrel get replaced.

The people on the phone were great to deal with. And they understood my concern with wanting them to look at it.

It was returned in about two days to me. That was excellent. But as soon as I opened the box, I noticed something was wrong immediately. This is where the Hi-Point haters will start to nod their heads and mutter to themselves "see, I told ya so".

The gun was complete with a new lock, new ghost ring sights, new magazine....new manual.....
(All I returned to the factory was the gun by itself.)
Hey, I must have gotten free stuff, right? Nothing wrong with that!

Then I looked at the barrel and saw that its condition was worse than the one I had sent in to them.

The final problemo was realizing why I got all sorts of extra goodies. It wasn't my gun. The serial number was wrong.

Well. This wasn't exactly what I had in mind when I sent it in to them. I kind of expected to, you know, get it fixed or something. Instead...I got the wrong gun back.

Now, I'm sure that MANY people have had great luck with Hi-Point. Hell, even I was having great luck with it until I took it apart to clean it. However, it seems like if and when you have bad luck with them...you REALLY have bad luck.

If it wasn't for bad luck I'd have none, and Hi-Point has become yet another example of that. We'll see what happens when I call them tomorrow. I'd kind of like to have my gun back.

You know, it happens to be registered to me after all.

Bree's Saturday

Bree went to a friend's birthday party. It was an excellent party, and Bree kept talking my ear off about it after she got back.
They actually got some air-castle thing. In a way, that's totally ridiculous. It ruins things for other parents that can't, or just don't want to, get all crazy over birthdays. In another way, it's great to see somebody go as far as they can for their kids.
(I just hope the spoiling effect doesn't happen!)
Then Bree just spent her evening with me.
Hanging with her has been awesome lately.
She's been getting into the things I am into, or at least trying to. So she might be more manly than I am before too long (and that's not hard to do).

Message From Hickock45

Re: Ballistol
Thanks. Glad you like the videos.

I have a couple of places in the Nashville area that sell Ballistol, but most places don't. I'd just order from the website. Yeah, I explain about those videos in one of my Vlogs; they asked me if they could link to them.

I think the internet and e-mail are wonderful. Thanks to those two inventions, a legend in the firearms world was able to reply to me THE SAME DAY I sent an e-mail out to him.

That rocks.

i'm not sure why i haven't been posting anything lately. i just never seem to think of making a post these days.
sure, things are busy. but they always are.
perhaps it's just laziness.
i will, however, give updates on the last week:

over the last weekend i tried the new .45 and also shot the .357 for the first time in years.
both guns performed well. i was really happy about it.

a week ago from tuesday, dave g. and i went to the millcreek golf course. i chipped a par in on hole 7, and parred hole 9. obviously those two holes are the easiest on the course.

yesterday we went out to millcreek again. no par. performance sucked. who knows why. i know i'm the worst golfer that ever lived...but i thought i would do better.

work is going on as usual. i hope i keep my head on straight and keep things moving.

life is good, even if busy. it's good when a person can say something like that.

that's all for now. i'll have to go back to making regular posts.

.45

After working for a few hours this morning, I drove to Greenville.
There was a killer deal on a 45 there.
So yes, I now have one.
And those bullets are massive, ya'll.
That's fa sho.

Robot Shoes Again

It should be noted that we had to wear yellow roboters to walk in the shop for the work trip today.
They were totally dope-diggity, as the picture clearly reflects.

Motor Control Center Trip

Bill G. and I went to Pittsburgh to check out a motor control center manufacturer.
I have to admit that their operation is really nice. They are well organized, the facility is very clean, and their products are built like tanks.
Plus, the two salesman that took us, Scott and Tom, were awesome.
Scott made us a bit nervous by informing us that he brings a firearm with him, everywhere he goes. So in the van with us was a loaded pistol.
Totally random and odd.
Lesson learned: Don't mess with Scott.

Afterwards I drove to Theresa's place. It was nice to see her for a while before she went off to work. Now it's just Bree and I hanging out. Acting like fools.
That comes natural to us!

Erie Golf Course

Nine holes at the Erie Golf Course weren't quite what we hoped it to be.
Dave G. wasn't feeling too good.
Half the par signs were missing, and they had no maps. So we essentially played the game blind.
And yet they charged us full price.
I'm not so happy with that golf course this year.
And the crappy thing about that course is that it is the one chosen for the golf league this year.
Looks like last week's game at the Millcreek course was our last.

But the weather was nice, the company was good (I hope he starts feeling better), and it was still nice to get out.

After the game we went to Buffalo Wild Wings. It looks like that will be a possible hangout after golf nights.

as i got home from work, theresa told me not to rush over to her place. it seems bryanna was throwing a temper tantrum at the time.
after it was over, theresa called to let me know it was safe to come over.
we went to the beach.
theresa wore shorts and it was too cold for shorts.
on the way out, bryanna thought it was a good idea to stick a rock up her nose, and she got it stuck.
on our way to the hospital (we didn't get far) she blew it out of her nose.

there's nothing like family nights.

Awesome Visit

Awesome Marsha came on up this weekend.
It was a really great visit!
She brought ham, cheesy taters, some corn bricks, and other goodies.
We watched some TV the first night, and the second night we watched "Last Holiday". That's a pretty good movie.

I have to tell ya, Awesome Marsha only gets better the longer you know her.

Oh, and it was her birthday recently! Happy birthday Mom!

Asbury

Tonight I took Bree to the park. It ended up being the highlight of my day.
All I did before that was work with the contractor in Joja, and wait around, anticipating another call. This weekend appeared to be the contractor catching glitches in my drawings. There were two glitches that caused some heartache.
Wildman called just as we were leaving the driveway. He wanted to come and pick up his hippo. He and Amber showed up quickly, and we all ended up going to the park.
I found a full sized football, and brought it home. (this makes for a total of two footballs and a basketball that I have found since moving to Erie).
Not a bad park trip at all, I must say.
Oh, and Bree wore sandals. She ended up with the nastiest feet I have ever seen her have. Yuck.
****
Today Bree also got to try squirt guns for the first time. She seemed to like them. I got a four pack of tiny squirt guns, and a frog for her that opens its mouth when you pull the "trigger". I'll have to get some pics of it. It's pretty cool looking.
i'm a bit bummed.
it's a holiday, and i'm the only one working.

Park With Bree

This park has a spiral slide, swings, and some cool trails. Bree loves it when we go to this park, and I love taking her there because it's just around the corner from my place.
I wore a jacket I got free from the Vendor that took me to the NASCAR races in October of 2009. It's a sweet jacket. Perfect for the parks this time of year.
Today we also got to see the extension of the park. Usually the trails are too muddy to get to it, but the ground was pretty dry today.
Of course Bree loved it.
It was a great day at the park.

p.s. happy birthday Awesome Marsha!
